In the bar at Royal Porthcawl – with ocean view -  there are photos of old champions. 1988 Royal Porthcawl hosted British Amateurs. It starts off with strokeplay – the best 64 players battles on in matchplay to reach the final. After 36 hole stood Christian Härdin as British Amateur Champion, spectacularly. The only Swede who have won this historic title – what is more, on a fantastic course like Royal Porthcawl.

British Amateur is a historic event,  the competition has been played four times at Formby. In the picture above you see the only winner of the British Amateur and a professional major event. In 1984 the man with the cool hat played Colin Montgomerie, Olazabal’s won 5/4.
