Royal North Devon (Westward Ho!)

Anticipated Links Experience:
A classic links with a real Harris-tweed feeling everywhere. In the clubhouse there is a small golf museum with everything is where it should be. It is like going back in a time machine. This is what it was like when it all began. You can only get this close to golf’s origins at Royal West Norfolk. A must for anyone seeking links golf’s roots.

Best Holes:
par3: 8th
par4: 6th
par5: 17th

Worthy of Note:
The museum mentioned above, as well as of course the quite remarkably wonderful sleeper-lined bunkers at the 6th hole.  We recommend hitting in the bunker on purpose just to experience the absurd feeling of trying to hit a vertical escape shot which dare not be missed because the consequence is  normally an extemely hard rebound.

History:
The oldest links course in England founded in 1864. The course was laid out by Old Tom Morris. The clubhouse is full of trophies and photos reflecting the history of golf. Harry Vardon, James Braid and Herbert Fowler all played here. The club’s most famous son is nevertheless J H Taylor, who grew up here and learned to play at Westward Ho!
