Wallasey Golf Club

Anticipated Links Experience:
A links course that can serve as a point of reference, where you return to play -in your mind or on the course. Classic holes, a few of which are a little weaker round the turn, but the love and feeling generated by the general atmosphere and landscape is irresistible. A great links experience with strong historical resonance.

Best hole:
par3: 12th hole
par4: 11th hole
par5: 4th hole

Worthy of note:
The 2nd Hole -“The Stableford” was where Dr. Frank Stableford got his revolutionary idea for the stableford system of point scoring. Also check out the big portrait of Bobby Jones in the clubhouse as this is the only one he signed himself.

History:
In 1891 the land was assessed by eight like-minded individuals who came to the same conclusion that here was the perfect place to create a first-class links course. Four months later Old Tom Morris presented his 5,175-yard long creation to the 212 members. Today not much of the original remains, only four greens and the 12th – Old Glory. The course has been used many times as a qualifying course for the British Open at Royal Liverpool. The most famous moment came in 1930 when Bobby Jones qualified for and then won the British Open, and in so doing completed his Grand Slam.
