When the rain takes a short brake we tee up on Formbys first hole. It´s lined with pine trees and railway on the right side, you have to focus directly, second and third continue in the same style.

Formby, a links course largely surrounded by pines and firs. Clearly, a course with a sense of moorland but with links character, hard turf, undulating fairways and deep penalizing bunkers.

On the sixth hole the course presents itself, after a challenging teeshot and a blind approach, we have the first birdie putt of the day. An even greater task, we have when we reach the ninth hole, here we see the ocean for the first time. 444 yards against the prevailing winds command respect.
After the short tenth hole the course turns away from the sea, now awaits a series of beautiful par fours, the fifteenth a challenge with a narrow landing area and a green protected by sand dunes. Before returning to the clubhouse we have an excellent short hole where the green is protected by three deep bunkers. The seventeenth gives you a chance to improve your score before we’re back at the clubhouse.

Formby, a course where the “cosy factor” is of the highest order. After a pleasant day at the course, what can be a better way to end a day than a game of snooker before it’s time to retire to the Dormy room on the upper floors of the clubhouse .
