History:
The club was formed in 1892. Old Tom Morris carried out a revamp of the course in 1894, and even today the 4th hole – Klondyke – and the 5th hole- The Dell – are originals. In 1927 Dr Alister MacKenzie was given the assignemnt to complete a new lay-out for the course. The renovations took a year to complete and involved undulating greens with three plateaus. MacKenzie was very pleased with his work: “Lahinch will make the finest and most popular course that I, or I believe anyone else, has ever constructed”. In 1999 Martin Hawtree modernised Lahinch and created an amazing challenge. He relaid the 4th hole, and added two new par 3s, the 8th and 11th holes, both in the sand dunes. In total he built 16 new tees and 14 greens were altered along original lines. Hawtree wisely left “Klondyke” and “ The Dell” as they were. The result speaks for itself and the course continues to draw acclaim from both players and the media. Today it is ranked amongst the 50 best courses in the world outside the USA.
Apart from the Old Course there is the nearby 18-hole Castle Course.
