After driving through tunnels of trees we arrive at Burnham & Berrow. the course that in 1896 had to add Berrow as new ground would happen on the church’s expense.
The first five are scary. The first hole is hard no matter what you do, As an introduction hole it is a punch under the belt. Second same, third same. It is difficult to find any stabile ground for the ball. We are getting worried. 4th hole is great and the fifth hole is amazing. Three par 4s, one par three and one par five. One of the best introductions ever. The nature, links feeling, small fairways, gorse, dry greens and a seaview. The fifth hole is a wonderfull par 3, something that is a charasteristic for the whole course. After that it turns down into a marshland to later retake the command through hole nine. Another impossible par 3.
Hole 13 and forward we return to the dunes. Through out there is a demand on the second shot to be perfect. Low iron 4s that is suppposed to land between bunkers to end up on the green. A challenge that could only be met with a smile. 17th is a par 3 that sometimes is considered as the best in England this time it also decided the outcome of the match. Mr J 2/1. 18th, 435 yard par 4 that in the tailwind enables a direct course direct into the gorse. Meanwhile we are having a conversation about swedish courses around “Jönköping” with an English gentleman.
