The summer arrives at England oldest club together with us. We study the course guide and prepare ourselves for long par fours. From a clubhouse soaked with tweed nostalgia whe enter first tee. We are welcomed by cheap and horses who are guarding the bridge over a burn passing between first tee and 18th green.
24 degrees celsius and two clubs headwind. First, second and third – classic links against wind, across roads. At no four we meet the classic bunker – LINKS75 has been there, and almost killed the opponent during the attemts to escape. 6th, an incomparable links par 4. At seven we are let through, at no eight again we are waved throug – little bit confused we mixe up par3 with par4 and fire away a spoon towards the beach, 100 meters away…Moving on and meets Juncus Effusus – Rush Bushes – impenetrable. On 10th and 11th everything narrows to a wall of Rush.
From behind we get ongoing advice from a ball with members and we find our way. 13th hole, par5, we squeezes the driver and finds a green like an upside down bowl – Tom Watson made an easy eagle when he had a friendly game here with his wife
We make a birdie from the sand at 16th. Drives towards the clubhouse and long for a Guinness model large. 17th and 18th challenge courage and course management – a classic finish, MrL 1/0.
