Skibo Castle Golf

Anticipated Links Experience:
A visit to Skibo Castle is like, to quote Walter Hagen, “Never wanted to be a millionaire, just to live like one.” A traditional highland links course, which in addition has undergone development in recent years. There are no signs of this on the course. The tees, fairways and greens have been left completely untouched. Its like playing on the course when it was fisrt opened – incredible! Apart from the golfing experience, the locker room, dining room, shop and the path from the gate to the car park are also high links-class. A memory for life. If you get the chance play and, above all, experience Skibo Castle.

Best Holes:
par 3 – 6th hole
par 4 – 2nd hole
par 5 – 18th hole .

Worthy of Note:
Turn over the day’s green-fee medallion of adorned gun-metal and discover your name engraved on the back.
The marriage of Madonna and Guy Richie took place at the castle in 2000.

History:
In 1898 the then existing landowner, Andrew Carnegie, constructed a 9-hole course. After his death the course fell into disrepair. It took until 1992 for Donald Steel’s new creation to stand ready – commissioned by today’s owner Peter de Savary. Since 2010 a lot of time and money has been spent   improving and developing the course and its character. New bunkers, a completely new 2nd hole, new tees, as well as the very obvious contribution made by the long fescue grass and ever-present mown walkways from tee to fairway, have created a course of imposing character.
