Conwy Golf Club
Anticipated Links Experience:
The course spreads itself out in the shadow of Conwy Mountain, and is a naturally beautifulk links, in a lanscape locally called “Morfa”, which is an old Welsh word for marsh. A traditional links lay-out, where two sides are flanked by the Irish Sea.
Best Holes:
par3: 15th
par4: 17th
par5: 10th
Worthy of Note:
The course has been the model for three of the world’s most famous golf paintings, all by Douglas Adams in 1893: ‘A Difficult Bunker, ‘The Putting Green’ och ‘The Drive’. A historic overview of these is excellently displayed in the clubhouse.
History:
Already in 1875 a group of members from the Royal Liverpool Golf Club had discovered the potential of the location for the construction of a golf course at Conwy, and a 12-hole course was laid out. In 1890 the club was formed and the course extended to 18 holes. The link to Royal Liverpool continued, and in 2006 Conwy became the first Welsh course to play host to Local Final Qualifying for the Open Championship. The course has over the years held a number of championships, the latest being the European Senior Tour, in 2012.
