Silence take — 10:40 – Links75, 11:10 – Hugh Grant
From first tee we walk down to Saunton East. Like a giant maze with fairways and greens plotted between the dunes. Yellow dried out fairways demands creativity and low irons with no spin toward raised greens. Smiling faces while we look at the helicopters flying to Saunton Sands – a resort above the burrows. The course as Nick Faldo expressed, is of British Open standard. We are inspired and creates birdies. 8th, teeshot over marker post and a huge dune guarding green – world class links. MrJ 7/6. 13th a oneshotter which needs imagination – another birdie!
14th another fabolous par4 which meets 15th, a top class par5. Links75 squeezes a spoon to the right at the 15th – Hugh places his driver to the right at no. 14 — finally we meet in the rough at Saunton. Hugh nods, hits a 5 iron and reaches the green, fueled with adrenalin links75 hits a perfect spoon to edge of green — maybe we can teach him some swinglessons?
We wrap up this classic links with 17th and 18th, then we see our new friend drive away in his Ferrari California. Saunton – worth an own movie.
